The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a short-term warning for strong storms with heavy rain, gusty winds, and occasional hail that affects the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and several parties of the greater Buenos Aires area.
According to information from Noticias Argentinas, the phenomena were detected by meteorological radars and cover areas such as Almirante Brown, Avellaneda, Berazategui, La Matanza, Lomas de Zamora, Morón, Tres de Febrero, and Vicente López, among others.
The warning was issued at 11:14 PM and recommends a series of self-protection measures, such as staying in closed buildings, avoiding the use of electrical devices and landline phones, not circulating on flooded streets, staying away from trees and objects that could be thrown by the wind, and cutting off the electrical supply in case of water ingress.
In addition to the short-term warning, the SMN maintains a yellow alert for storms for much of the province of Buenos Aires and other regions of the country.
Satellite images from Windy show a storm core moving from northeastern Buenos Aires toward the Río de la Plata, while new formations develop in the west.
The SMN will continue to update the situation through its official channels, and it is recommended for the population to stay informed and follow the authorities' instructions.
